    The player can register and pay. The will create a duplicate account for themselves. The register can merge the 2 names together then. However be careful as injury fund is linked to when they register.

    Seamus.  My understanding is that the GAA rule is that you can only indicate a player as registered after they have "fulfilled their Annual Subscription requirement".  If a member (or their parent/guardian on their behalf) is unwilling to register before playing or training, I'd be extremely surprised if somebody else doing it for them would be, upon examination, considered a valid registration.  Given the past culture of players (and often parents/guardians) leaving all admin to the club though, it is indeed a massive challenge to get all players registered before training or playing, with consequent implications for liability, insurance, and injury scheme.  We open our 2023 membership on Foireann on Jan 1st - and it is still a painful challenge to get players to register before training.
